Position Type: Contract 5-10 hours/weekly

Position Overview

We seek a part-time Partnership Development Consultant for Russia, Belarus & Ukraine to help Lantern foster connections with the internet freedom and digital rights community, independent and high-profile media, and other civil society groups. The Consultant will be responsible for building and maintaining partnerships and coalitions to further Lantern’s mission in the region and to expand Lantern’s user base, creating access to an uncensored internet for all.

About Lantern

Lantern is a censorship circumvention tool and peer-to-peer network with over 4 million monthly active users worldwide, primarily in countries with extreme levels of censorship and digital authoritarianism. Lantern believes access to the uncensored internet is a human right. We are committed to providing private, fast, reliable, and secure access to the free and open internet so that our users, no matter where they are on the planet, can freely seek information and share their stories with the world.

Responsibilities

  • Forge deep connections with the diaspora, media partners, YouTube bloggers/internet influencers, and civil society organizations focused on human rights, freedom of expression, and internet freedom.
  • Represent Lantern and build our reputation within these communities to raise awareness, and identify new channels for increased visibility. Work with partners to seed relevant content on Lantern’s Discover feature, a peer-to-peer content management platform.
  • Collaborate closely with the grants team to assist with grant reporting requirements related to the focus area.
  • Offer strategic insight and direct guidance into the expansion of Lantern in the region.
  • Develop goals and action plans for partnership outreach and engagement.
  • Provide translation support, as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of foreign affairs in internet-oppressed environments
  • Possess an extensive network of media and civil society partners, as well as internet influencers, involved in the internet freedom movement in the focus geographic region.
  • Experience with grant writing, reporting, and analytics
  • Proficient in English and Russian (Ukrainian and/or Belarusian would be a plus!)
