Core Developer

At Lantern (View All Jobs)

Position Overview

Lantern seeks an experienced backend engineer to help fight censorship around the world through our censorship circumvention tool.

Lantern uses a variety of networking and protocol tricks to sneak traffic past censors in some of the most repressive censoring countries in the world. On the Lantern team, you will be a part of consistently deploying protocols and strategies that have never been used on the internet before. Some devops experience is helpful but not required. On the other end of the spectrum, some mobile experience is helpful but not required. We make heavy use of Go, and experience with networking, security, and protocols are strongly encouraged. We also use Python, Rust, and Dart as well as Prometheus, Redis, and Docker.

If you’re excited to tackle thorny social problems with software, or if you’re an experienced engineer who thinks they might be ready to tackle a new kind of challenge, we want to hear from you.

About Lantern

Lantern is a censorship circumvention tool and peer-to-peer network with over 12 million monthly active users around the world, primarily in countries with the most extreme levels of censorship and digital authoritarianism, including China, Russia, and Iran. Lantern believes access to the uncensored internet is a human right. We are committed to providing private, fast, reliable, and secure access to the free and open internet so that our users, no matter where they are on the planet, can freely seek information and share their stories with each other and the world.

Working at Lantern

We are an agile team in several time zones and countries working to keep the internet open to people all over the world. We develop our products through collaboration and consensus rather than decree. Although each of us focuses on specific areas, we wear many hats, need to be able to jump in on a variety of things, and tend to move around between focus areas over time, so flexibility and curiosity are key.
