About Lantern

Lantern believes access to the uncensored internet is a fundamental human right. Our mission is to provide private, fast, reliable, and secure access to the open internet so that our users can freely seek information and share their stories with the world.

Position Overview

We are seeking a part-time User Support, Engagement & Partnerships Specialist focused on Iran to help improve Lantern’s usability and visibility among Iranian users. This role combines user feedback analysis, community engagement, and strategic partnership development. You will work closely with trusted users, diaspora communities, and advocacy organizations to identify product issues, promote awareness of Lantern, and foster collaborative relationships that strengthen access to a free and open internet.

Key Responsibilities

User Feedback & Technical Support

  • Engage with trusted users and beta testers in Iran to gather feedback on Lantern’s usability and performance.
  • Monitor online discussions, forums, and app store reviews to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Create and escalate detailed technical issue tickets for the engineering team, ensuring real-world feedback informs product development.

Community Engagement & Content Localization

  • Support users on social media, forums, and messaging platforms by answering questions and troubleshooting issues.
  • Develop and share localized social media content, updates, and user guides that resonate with Iranian audiences.
  • Help translate and localize product updates, surveys, and support materials.

Partnership Development

  • Build and maintain relationships with diaspora organizations, independent media, online influencers, and civil society groups.
  • Identify new promotional or distribution channels to raise awareness of Lantern and expand our user base.
  • Represent Lantern in virtual community meetings or events, and help seed relevant content on Lantern’s peer-to-peer Discover platform.
  • Collaborate with the internal team on partnership outreach strategy and contribute to grant reporting related to regional activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience engaging with users and communities to collect feedback, surface usability issues, and support adoption.
  • Ability to identify, document, and analyze user-reported issues systematically.
  • Familiarity with VPNs, censorship circumvention tools, and digital security practices in restrictive environments.
  • Experience supporting or moderating user communities across social media, messaging apps, or online forums.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strategic partnerships with diaspora communities, independent media, civil society groups, and influencers to increase visibility, support outreach efforts, and contribute to organizational growth.
  • Effective at working independently with minimal oversight – organized, proactive, and self-directed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Persian.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Competency in using help desk or ticketing systems (e.g., Freshdesk, Zendesk, Jira, or similar tools) for tracking and reporting issues.
  • Established relationships with Iran-focused civil society groups, digital rights advocates, online influencers, or diaspora media outlets.
