Lantern Terms of Service

Last updated: November 2025

Lantern is operated as a mission-driven 501(c)(3) non-profit project. Our Terms of Service (“Terms”) set forth the terms that apply to your use of the Lantern VPN service, mobile applications, desktop applications, and website (collectively, the “Service(s)”), and reflect our commitment to openness, privacy, and transparency.

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you (“User,” “you”) and Brave New Software Project, Inc. (“Lantern,” “we,” “us”) governing your use of the Services.

By accessing or using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you are not authorized to use the Services.

2. Services

2.1 Services Description

Lantern provides virtual private network (VPN) services designed to enable secure, private internet access. Our Service encrypts your internet connection and routes it through our global server network to help protect your privacy.

2.2 No-Logs Policy

Lantern does not log or store browsing activity, connection timestamps, session identifiers, or originating IP addresses in connection with your use of the Services in a way that can be linked to individual users. Limited technical data may be temporarily collected for operational purposes (e.g., ensuring service stability, fraud prevention) but is promptly discarded or anonymized.

3. Account Requirements and Limitations

3.1 Age Requirements

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Services.
In some jurisdictions (such as the EU/UK under GDPR), the minimum age may be 16. If you are below the legal minimum age in your jurisdiction, you may not use the Service.

3.2 User Responsibility

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
  • All activities that occur under your account
  • Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized use of your credentials and/or your account

3.3 Account Limitations

Each Lantern Pro account is limited to five (5) simultaneous connections unless otherwise specified in your subscription plan.

4. Subscriptions and Payments

4.1 Subscription Plans

We offer various subscription plans (monthly, annual, or as otherwise specified). Subscriptions purchased through Stripe, Google Play, or the Apple App Store will automatically renew unless canceled before the renewal date. Your use of such third-party apps is subject to your compliance with applicable third-party terms.

For alternative one-time payment methods, subscriptions do not auto-renew and must be manually renewed at the end of each subscription term.

4.2 Free Version

We may provide a limited free version of our Services. Premium features require a paid subscription.

4.3 Payment Methods

We accept major credit cards and other payment methods as displayed during checkout. All prices are in USD unless otherwise specified.

4.4 Refund Policy

We encourage all users to try our free version before purchasing.

For Stripe and Google Play purchases:

  • Monthly subscribers may only request refunds during their first 30-day billing period and may receive a prorated refund for unused time if requested within such 30-day billing period.
  • Annual subscribers may receive prorated refunds for unused time if requested within 30 days of purchase.
  • Refunds are not available for any subscription renewal terms.

For Apple App Store purchases:

  • All refund requests must be made directly through Apple’s App Store and are subject to Apple’s refund policies.
  • Lantern cannot process App Store refunds directly.

For alternative payment methods:

  • One-time payments through alternative payment processors are subject to technical limitations. Reach out to [email protected] and we will help however we can.

Where required by law, users may be entitled to additional refund rights.

4.5 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.

5. Acceptable Use Policy

5.1 Prohibited Activities

You agree not to use the Services to:

  • Violate any applicable federal, state, local, or international laws or regulations

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LANTERN AND ITS AFFILIATES DISCLAIM ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, NONINFRINGEMENT, AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

8.3 Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LANTERN AND ITS AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES. 10. Modifications to Services and Terms

We reserve the right to:

  • Modify or discontinue the Services at any time

11.2 By Us
